CHANGES IN JANUARY 2020:
I am pleased to share that I recently completed specialized training in EMDR Therapy for First Responders and Military Veterans; and beginning in January 2020, I will be reserving several hours during my work days to focus on intensive EMDR therapy to deal with C-PTSD, PTSD, Moral Injury (MI), and other trauma related issues. Therapy is tailored based on need and disruption of symptoms, and can range in frequency from weekly visits to as often as 2x/day visits for 5-10 consecutive days. I am very excited to be offering this level of care to clients who are struggling with past adverse life events that cause disruptions to daily life.

Life can get difficult, and sometimes a little help from a professional Therapist can make things better. I care about your well-being and provide you with tools to help you deal with past and present circumstances and situations.
Ever the counselor type, I spent my first 25 career years as an educator - teacher and administrator. In 2013 I was privileged to attend Seattle Pacific University for a second Master's degree - this one in Marriage & Family Therapy. I am daily doing what I was meant to do. It would be my pleasure to assist you in discovering and living your preferred story. Please contact me for an appointment.
My specialty areas include Anxiety, Depression, Trauma/PTSD, Marriage & Couples, Parenting, and Child and Adolescent Counseling. I practice from a foundation of Narrative Therapy, and frequently use CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), and EMDR as tools to assist patients.

EMDR can be thought of as a psychologically based therapy that helps a person see disturbing material in a new and less distressing way.
I am a trained EMDR therapist progressing towards certification. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful psychotherapy approach that has helped an estimated two million people of all ages relieve many types of psychological distress. Trained by one of the founders of EMDR therapy, I follow researched protocols to assist patients in clearing disturbing memory networks from past adverse life events.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
No one knows exactly how any form of psychotherapy works neurobiologically or in the brain. However, we do know that when a person is very upset, their brain cannot process information as it normally does. One moment becomes “frozen in time,” and remembering a trauma may feel as bad as going through it the first time because the images, smells, feelings and sensations haven’t changed. These memories can have a lasting negative effect that interferes with the way a person sees the world and the way they relate to other people.
My Family Therapy sessions help patients develop positive attitudes towards life’s most complex and challenging circumstances. As one of Grant County's only licensed Marriage & Family Therapists, I have extensive experience and training in the complexities of family systems, and can assist you in working through relational conflict and family relationships.
